About me

Hi! My name is Leah Galant. I’m member-owner of Meerkat Media, specializing in documentary directing with additional experience as a cinematographer and editor.

I want my work to widen perspectives through unexpected narratives.

My debut feature film On The Divide premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and broadcast on POV PBS. My recent Film Landscapes of Memory premiered at True/False Film Festival 2026 and is distributed by Watermelon Pictures.

I was named one of DOC NYC’s 40 under 40 and spent a year in Germany as a Fulbright Scholar.

My work has been featured on the NY Times, The Atlantic, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Salon, MovieMaker Magazine and earned Vimeo Staff Picks..

While a student at Ithaca College, I was named Variety magazine's "110 Students to Watch in Film and Media" for my work on The Providerand Beyond the Wall. The Provider is about the story of a traveling abortion provider in Texas. The Provider won a Student Emmy Award and screened at various festivals including SXSW and Palm Springs Shortfest. I was the Fall 2016 inaugural Sally Burns Shenkman Women Filmmaker Fellow at Jacob Burns Film Center and 2017 Sundance Ignite Fellow where I completed my latest projects Kitty and Ellen (DOC NYC 2017) and Death Metal Grandma (SXSW 2018, NY Times Op-Docs) which won Best Documentary at the American Pavilion during the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
